The Chapel of San Miguel is said to be the oldest church in the United States in continuous use. It and the Acomo Pueblo are referenced in the beautiful book 'Death Comes for the Archbishop' by Willa Cather, a wonderful historical narrative of New Mexico which traces the friendship and adventures of Bishop Jean Latour and vicar Father Joseph Vaillant as they organize the new Roman Catholic diocese of New Mexico. |
